April 3, 2016 (Old Trafford): Man Utd 1-0 Everton
Man Utd: WWLWW
- Martinez has lost 10 of his 14 meetings with United as a manager, winning four of those games – three of which have come during his time in charge of Everton.
- The Toffees have progressed from six of their last seven semi-finals in this competition, the exception being their last appearance at this stage in 2012, but overall their record is not great against this weekend’s opponents.
- United have won 84 and lost 69 of the previous meetings, although in recent times that is more mixed as Everton have won two and lost three of the last five encounters.
- The last match between the pair ended 1-0 to the Red Devils earlier this month, with Antony Martial s goal settling the game 10 minutes into the second half at Old Trafford.
Defender Ramiro Funes Mori is suspended after being sent off in a chastening 4-0 defeat to Liverpool in the Merseyside derby. Phil Jagielka and Seamus Coleman are both doubts due to hamstring injuries.
Of the pair, Jagielka is the most likely to be involved at Wembley but Martinez could have a defensive crisis on his hands if both men fail to recover.
Captain Wayne Rooney is in contention to start but Van Gaal does not appear to be convinced about the England international’s fitness.
The skipper’s return would be likely to see Jesse Lingard drop to the bench, but the youngster’s speed could yet be preferred to Juan Mata’s pedestrian pace on the right flank.
Everton XI: Robles; Oviedo, Jagielka, Stones, Baines; Barry, Besic, Deulofeu, Barkley, Lennon; Lukaku
Man Utd XI: De Gea; Fosu-Mensah, Smalling, Blind, Darmian; Carrick, Schneiderlin; Mata, Rooney, Martial; Rashford
PREDICTION: Everton 0-3 Man Utd
