Champions League Preview: CSKA Moscow vs Manchester United

Wednesday 21st October, 2015

November 3, 2009 (Old Trafford): Manchester United 3-3 CSKA Moscow

  • CSKA and Manchester Utd’s only previous meeting was in the 2009/10 group stages in the Champions League. The Red Devils won 1-0 in Moscow before a 3-3 stalemate at Old Trafford
  • Manchester United have lost their last three away games in the Champions League (against Olympiakos, Bayern Munich and PSV Eindhoven). They’ve never lost four in a row
  • Seydou Doumbia has scored 12 Champions League goals for CSKA; more than twice as many as any other player for the club
  • Five of Manchester Utd’s seven games against Russian teams in European competition have ended in a draw (W1 L1)
  • CSKA are unbeaten in their last three Champions League games at home (W1 D2), a first for them in the competition

Bebras Natcho is a doubt for the home side and will most likely not feature.

Ashley Young, Luke Shaw and Paddy McNair are all sidelined for the Red Devils and won’t take part in this crucial tie

CSKA Moscow XI: Akinfeev; Berezutski, Ignashevich, Shchennikov, Fernandes; Eremenko, Wernbloom; Tosic, Dzagoev, Musa; Doumbia

Manchester United XI: De Gea; Darmian, Smalling, Jones, Rojo; Schweinsteiger, Schneiderlin; Herrera, Mata, Martial; Rooney

PREDICTION: Manchester United WIN
