Champions League Preview: Arsenal vs Olympiakos

December 4, 2012 (Champions League Group Stages): Olympiakos 2-1 Arsenal

  • Arsenal and Olympiakos have been paired in the same Champions League group for the fourth time in the last seven seasons
  • All six of their previous encounters in the Champions League have ended in a home win
  • Arsenal have only failed to score three times in their last 29 Champions League games
  • Only one of Olympiakos’ last 30 Champions League games has ended in a draw (W14 L15). It was against Benfica in October 2013
  • Theo Walcott has failed to score in his last eight Champions League games at the Emirates, his last goal dating back to December 2010 against Partizan Belgrade

Arsenal will welcome back Francis Coquelin for this clash after a two match absence. He will replace fellow Frenchman Mathieu Flamini, who picked up a thigh problem against Leicester over the weekend. Mikel Arteta also misses out with a minor muscular issue. Olympiakos will be without Serbian midfielder Luka Milivojevic, who is due to serve the second of the two-game ban he received in Olympiakos‘s Europa League round-of-32 tie against Dnipro last season. On a positive note, Alejandro Dominguez is in contention to return after picking up a thigh strain in the previous fixture against Bayern Munich.

ARSENAL XI: Cech; Bellerin, Mertesacker, Koscielny, Gibbs; Coquelin, Cazorla; Ramsey, Ozil, Sanchez; Walcott

OLYMPIAKOS XI: Jimenez; Elabdellaoui, Costa, Siovas, Masuaku; Cambiasso; Salino, Kasami; Dominguez; Pardo, Ideye

Prediction: Arsenal WIN
